A unique adventure in the heart of Arctic

This exceptional journey along the coasts of the Svalbard archipelago is intended for anyone eager to discover the polar environment and its wildlife.

A group of no more than 12 people, fostering camaraderie and friendship. A boat whose size ensures both the necessary comfort to navigate pleasantly in this sometimes hostile environment and the indispensable flexibility to “slip through and approach.”

A sail through the national parks of Svalbard

Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago, is located between the Arctic Ocean, the Greenland Sea, and the Barents Sea. During our stay, we will sail from Longyearbyen, the capital of Svalbard, to explore the treasures of the Northwest National Parks of the archipelago for 11 days, up to the fjord known as "Woodfjorden."

Amidst unique wildlife, flora, and environment

In detail

This trip to Spitsbergen, accessible to everyone, is a series of navigation phases and excursions. Each day, we accompany you ashore to discover a unique feature. Then, a few hours of sailing, always along the coast, for the pleasure of the eyes.

Most often, we spend the "night" at anchor, taking the time to "immerse ourselves." This can be an opportunity for an outing under the midnight sun, either by zodiac or on land.

During the trip, we will make a point of avoiding places like Ny Alesund or Barentsburg, which have become too crowded with tourists and are now far removed from the concept that led you to choose us.

Program

We do not have a strict itinerary, but rather a "guiding theme" for the trip with its various sites:

  • Isfjord
  • Prince Karl Island
  • St Johnsfjorden
  • King bay
  • Cross bay
  • Magdalena bay
  • Smeerenburg fjord
  • Danskøya, Amsterdamøya islands
  • Indre & Ytre Norskoya islands
  • Raudfjord, Hamilton bay
  • Woodfjord: texas bar, Monaco glacier

"As well as different possibilities:"

  • Cultural / Historical
    • "Visits to historic whaling sites or expedition departure points for the conquest of the pole"
    • Visit to a 17th-century whalers' cemetery.
  • Wildlife Observations (on land or by Zodiac):
    • Birds: puffins, guillemots, fulmars, eiders, ivory gulls, Arctic terns, ...
    • Observation of wild reindeer, Arctic foxes
    • Polar bear sightings
    • Observation of isolated or colony-dwelling walruses
    • Whale and beluga sightings (most often from July onwards)

  • Observation of flora and the environment:
    • Approaching and observing several glaciers (approaching icebergs) on the west and north coasts.
    • Observing flowers and mosses (depending on the season)
    • Midnight sun
    • Symbolic crossing of the 80th parallel north (depending on ice conditions)

The last day is dedicated to visiting Longyearbyen, a mining village evolving into a town. Polar Museum, gallery (arts - slideshow - old maps...), souvenir shops....

Participants' Physical Condition:

  • articipants should possess basic physical abilities due to the nature of the trip, including navigating steep stairs on board and potentially uneven terrain ashore.
  • On land, there are no established paths, often uneven rocky terrain, holes, occasional snow, or soft ground.
  • Safety protocols are in place for encounters with wildlife, particularly polar bears, necessitating quick evacuation to Zodiacs if needed.

Therefore, it's important that everyone has a minimum level of physical fitness (being able to climb a vertical ladder of 3 meters is a good benchmark).
Awareness of the surroundings and adherence to guidelines are crucial to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment throughout the expedition.
